You’ve found some niches and products to promote now you have to do the proper keyword research and with some of the tools out there you can find out what all the top affiliates are using for any product in ClickBank.
This is almost unfair. I think it’s just a matter of being “in the know” these days, because you can take any product and can see almost all the affiliates promoting it and what keywords and ads they are using before you even begin promoting. Sound unbelievable? I still can’t believe how easy it is.
Step 1. Put together a good keyword list. There are free ways to get lists of keywords and the searches for given keyword but we are not trying to get big traffic; we are looking for traffic that converts.
So my recommendation is forget about big lists of thousands of keywords, concentrate on finding 10 to 20 hand picked winning keywords to start off with that are more likely to convert because you’ve stolen them, then expand from there. Don’t worry it’s legal, but I won’t make you any friends.
To find the 20 words you’ll start your campaigns with, you’ll simply find out what the top affiliates are using. You’ll start by putting together a good list to monitor.
There are free trials you can check out of these tools :
- Key Compete
- Keyword Spy
- Hexatrack
- Affiliate Elite
There are some other services as well that do almost the same thing but I like Keyword Spy the best because it’s not on my desktop which can be slow and I like the layout. It’s easy for me to read and download.
You can actually type in a merchant ID which you get from your hoplink for the product and it will give you all the affiliate IDs promoting it, the keywords, and ads. It’s insane, then you can see how many other products the super affiliates are promoting and what they are. Total insanity.
If you don’t want to get totally ripped like this I recommend you set up different affiliate accounts for each product and there are also some spy defenders out there. However I’m not sure how they stand up to some of these services. I’ve always kept my keyword lists low and use different IDs and domains keyword and per product.
You can weed a lot of keywords out over time by testing and tracking. The reason why I mention this is because some of the affiliates stand out by the amount of keywords they are bidding on.
Otherwise use seobook.com keyword tool or Google’s own keyword tool to put together a big list to monitor. So if your budget is low do it this way and then atleast grab AdSpyPro for a measly one time fee of $67 and monitor the keywords.
Step 2. Now you can plug these big lists of keywords into SPY tools to monitor ads and keywords that are there 24/7 for atleast 5-7 days. What does that mean? Usually this means someone is making money with that ad and keyword, almost guaranteed. Otherwise someone is wasting tons of money and not paying attention.
Several programs can do this.
- AdSpyPro
- Hexatrack
- Affiliate Elite
Most of the programs I am listing I have access to, either because I got JV review access or I bought the program or pay the monthly membership fee. Some work better then others and some have small features that are different and make them worthwhile to keep in my arsenal.
Note: I recommend you have two things most importantly. One is a tool to spy on the competition’s keyword and ads over time. The other is a tool to track at the keyword level.
If you were to choose one, choose having a keyword tracking tool. Atleast then you can plug in keyword lists that you think will work and then track them to find out.
Using Hexatrack is free for a small amount, and pro is monthly but real cheap at the moment also I have AdSpyPro which you have to download. This tool is a cheap one time fee but is limited. Affiliate Elite is also another powerful desktop tool that I highly recommend to do this.
If you invested in the upsell there is a personal spy tool I included also that can show you what your competitors are using for ad copy as well.
Use these tools to start your campaigns and you’ll skip the line. Now let’s swipe those ads and set up our adgroups in our first campaign.
